I guess you could say that I've been running since I was in elementary school. I can remember my dad would go for a run and he would let me run with him for his first mile. I also remember running the one mile loop in our neighborhood with my best friend. I moved on to track in junior high, and track and cross country in high school. I always loved running, well as much as one can love that kind of torture. Now as a busy wife and mom, it has been very off and on, but I always come back. This blog is a place for me to keep track of my on and off running life.

I almost gave up already today.  Levi is back to sleeping only 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours at a time.  I feel so much better when I can get 5 or 6 straight hours.  So I slept in this morning and figured I was back to where I was before...sleeping too long and just no time to get exercise in.  Especially knowing that we start school again next week.  I just don't know if I will be able to keep it up or not.  But somehow I got motivated enough to just get on the treadmill anyway.  I felt so much better!  I need to have the mind set that it doesn't matter if it's in the morning, afternoon, or evening as long as I get my run it.  So I don't have a lot of confidence that I will be able to do it, but I will certainly give it a try!  Anyway, it is hard.  Really hard.  I mean the walking and running is simple enough, but it just feels so hard on my out of shape body.  I was a little sore after my first run and my shins are even a little sore already.  These should be my clues that I really NEED to get myself into some sort of shape.  Well, hope to keep posting more runs!

I am going to attempt to get started exercising again.  I think maybe challenging myself to getting in shape for a 5K is a good start.  I am using the Couch to 5K program.  It only requires three days a week of running.  It is also good for me because I literally feel like I am just getting off the couch.  I don't know if I have ever been so out of shape in my life.  This exercise thing is mostly dependent on Levi though.  He has started sleeping a little better at night.  If he keeps it up this time I should be able to keep exercising.  But every other time I have started exercising he started sleeping terrible again and it all went out the window.  So we will see what happens this time.  I'm not going to worry about it.  If he sleeps, I will exercise.  If he doesn't I will just continue to enjoy him and know that I have the rest of my life to worry about getting back into shape!

I'm not sure what came over me but when we got to my house this morning, we turned around and I decided to keep going.  I'm a little sore already and I hope I don't regret running that far on my second day out.  I think tomorrow we may just walk.  I guess a mile and a half just doesn't give Brandy and I enough talk time!

Here I go...I think.  There is no way I would be running again on my own.  Thankfully Brandy has been begging me to run with her this summer.  She has been doing great with her running and you would think it would motivate me, but I really would rather sleep in.  But I do want to spend some time with her this summer and going running together seems to be the only way we will accomplish that.  So I will continue to set my alarm and get up early to run with her.  It was so beautiful this morning.  I forgot how wonderful summer mornings smell.  Mmmm.  So Brandy picked me up and we drove out 1.5 miles.  That way we could run back to my house together and I could be done and she could just run back to get her three mile run in.  I told her next week to plan on going four so I can do two.  She readily agreed....I'm so proud of her!  Wish me luck, I hope I can keep this up and get back into great running shape!

I'll Be Back...

At least I hope to be back to running this spring! Back at the end of November and beginning of December my back was hurting pretty bad. I decided that along with Chiropractor visits and some Physical Therapy I had better take a break from running and see if it helps. I'm not sure it makes much difference really. But in the meantime I knew I needed some sort of exercise. So we picked up an elliptical machine at Wal Mart. It was sad to put the treadmill to rest, but I have learned to love this elliptical machine. So that is where I am at for the time being. I do hope to continue my running when the weather warms up and with that, get back to this running blog. You know it says under my title that I have an off and on running life. I guess for now I am off, but I will be back!
